The Modern Love Intensive offers an updated and expansive approach to the popular "love language" relational theory that can be used to explore your relationship to love. Join me for a friendly and communal workshop that transforms the romance-centered theory into a valuable connection, communication, and rapport-building tool that recognizes love is experienced in and important for ALL relationships - not just romantic ones. This workshop includes interactive exercises, group discussion, video clips, and self-reflection activities.

This workshop is right for you if:

  • You read Speaking from the Heart: 18 Languages for Modern Love and it resonated with you

  • You feel curious about how you relate to love — and if it could use an adjustment

  • You are tired of the sex-and-romance relationship narrative and want to build loving relationships that are on YOUR terms

  • You need some help figuring out what those terms might be

  • You are ready to explore — and maybe even reject — the social scripts around dating, love, and connection that so commonly come up in your sessions (and your life)

  • You find tools like Attachment Theory or boundary work helpful

  • You feel inspired in communal learning (and unlearning) environments with like-minded people

By the end of this workshop, attendees will be able to:

  1. Recall at least two Languages for Modern Love

  2. Demonstrate two ways to apply Languages for Modern Love in client interactions

  3. Identify at least two examples of "relationship hierarchy" as they appear in Western culture

  4. Critically analyze the original love language relational theory

  5. Identify at least one piece of popular media that has influenced their relationship to love

  6. Define "allonormativity" and "amatonormativity" and discuss their impact on Western representations of love
